Sun-Damaged Siding in Colorado Springs

Look beyond faded color before deciding to repaint.

If the sunny side of your home looks more worn than the rest, start by comparing the finish and the siding underneath it. Carroll Painting helps Colorado Springs homeowners plan surface preparation, repainting and any separately needed siding work.

Make an elevation-by-elevation comparison.

“Sun-damaged” often describes how an exterior looks to its owner. It does not establish every cause of the deterioration. Bring photos of the affected side and a more sheltered side so the estimate begins with a useful comparison.

Start with the finish

Note fading, uneven color, peeling or exposed areas. If the principal concern is a change in appearance, our faded paint guide helps organize color and repainting decisions.

Then look at the material

Identify visibly split, loose, warped or deteriorated siding separately from worn paint. New color does not restore damaged material. Tell us about those areas so the appropriate repair or replacement discussion happens before the coating is selected.

Three possible paths for the exterior

Prepare and repaint sound siding

Where the material is suitable to retain, the scope can focus on the existing coating, cleaning and preparation, appropriate priming and a compatible finish. The work should reflect the actual siding and surface condition.

Address isolated damaged areas first

Where the concerns are concentrated in certain boards or details, identify them separately. Discuss the extent of material work, how adjoining surfaces will be treated and the transition between repaired and retained areas.

Discuss replacement when needed

If the condition raises questions about retaining the siding, compare the replacement scope before investing in finish work. Ask which elevations or sections are involved and how trim, transitions and painting fit the plan.

A DOCUMENTED COLORADO SPRINGS PROJECT

Cedar siding, trim and the adjoining details.

Carroll's cedar siding project record describes preparation and painting of cedar siding and trim, with a small stucco area included in the exterior work. It is a useful example of assessing the home as a combination of materials rather than treating every surface identically.

The project photo illustrates Carroll's siding work. The archive does not identify sunlight as the sole cause of that home's condition, so your own exterior still needs its own assessment.

When discussing your home, identify the siding type if you know it and share previous paint or stain information. If you do not know the material or product, photos and a walkthrough can help start the conversation.

What belongs in your estimate

Ask for a clear description of the elevations included, surface preparation, material repairs, primer and finish system. Discuss whether the work covers a single side or the whole exterior, and how a new finish will meet areas that remain unchanged.

Access, condition and the extent of preparation affect the proposal. A square-foot figure alone does not explain the difference between refreshing sound siding and addressing damaged material. Our estimate guide helps you compare the proposed work.

Questions about worn, exposed siding

Does faded siding need to be replaced?

Faded color alone does not answer that question. Assess the coating and the material separately. Sound siding may be suitable for preparation and repainting; damaged sections need their own evaluation.

Can you repaint only the side that looks worst?

We can discuss a defined scope. Consider the condition of the other elevations and how the new color and finish will meet existing paint at corners and trim lines.

Should I change to a different exterior color?

Choose color after identifying the siding and proposed coating system. Discuss product and material requirements as well as the appearance beside your roof, masonry, windows and trim.

Is sunlight always the cause?

No single cause should be assumed from appearance alone. Previous preparation, the existing coating, moisture and material condition belong in the assessment as well as exposure.

What photos help with an inquiry?

Send one view of the full affected elevation, closer views of the finish and damaged areas, and a comparison with another side. Include any repainting history you know.
