1. Material and existing finish
Point out peeling, grease near the range, wear around handles and any previous refinishing. Solid wood, veneer, engineered panels and laminate can require different approaches. Ask how adhesion will be evaluated.
2. Preparation and scope
Discuss cleaning, surface preparation, primer compatibility and repairs. Clarify whether the scope includes doors, drawer fronts, visible frames, end panels, cabinet interiors and any hardware changes.
3. Color, sheen and wood grain
Look at color samples beside your counters, backsplash and flooring, in your kitchen’s daylight and evening lighting. Oak grain may remain visible through paint; discuss the finish you expect before work begins.
4. Kitchen access and cure time
Ask about protection of nearby surfaces, the work sequence, ventilation, reinstallation and when cabinets can be used and cleaned. Dry-to-touch time and full cure are different, and depend on the coating and conditions.
