Peyton, CO · 80831 Metal barn preparation Documented estimate

Adapted from an actual Carroll Painting proposal. Names, addresses and prices are omitted. This account explains proposed work, not a completed project or a homeowner testimonial.

The starting point

Separate the roof from the rest of the barn.

This Peyton 80831 proposal listed the metal barn roof separately from the metal siding and trim. The roof entry specified washing, protection of nearby areas and two coats of rust-inhibitive exterior paint in silver.

The siding-and-trim entry described a different preparation sequence and a direct-to-metal exterior coating. Color and finish for those areas were to be selected by the homeowner.

The documented preparation

Rust and failing paint were named in the scope.

The barn-door preparation included scraping and wire brushing peeling or flaking paint at the animal-pen doors. Rusted siding was to be wire brushed or sanded, with raw and exposed areas primed, including use of rust primer.

The proposal also identified small holes left by removed screws or nails for caulking. Downspouts were to be removed for access, then painted and reinstalled as part of the proposed work.

The Carroll approach

Match the written plan to the actual building.

The scope connected the roof, siding, trim and doors to their own preparation and finish descriptions. It also described masking, cleanup, touch-ups and a final walkthrough.

This is a record of a proposed barn-painting plan, not evidence of a completed restoration or a guarantee that a coating will repair deteriorated metal.

For a barn project, useful questions concern the condition of the metal, the preparation being included and the handling of fixtures that need to move for access.
