An allowance for wood repair is different from the painting scope.
A Colorado Springs exterior proposal listed optional wood replacement with estimated labor and material cost handled separately.
Adapted from an actual Carroll Painting proposal. Names, addresses and prices are omitted. This account explains proposed work, not a completed project or a homeowner testimonial.
The starting point
The painting plan and repair allowance were separate.
This Colorado Springs 80911 proposal described exterior siding and trim preparation and painting. An optional wood-replacement entry appeared separately from the main total.
The repair entry estimated two hours of labor for the home and specified labor charged by the hour plus the cost of materials. It was an allowance to review, not a statement that all wood replacement was included in the painting price.
The documented distinction
Surface preparation was not the same as replacing boards.
The painting description called for washing, scraping peeling paint, sanding rough wood and raised edges, and priming raw or exposed areas. It also described protecting surfaces that were not to be painted.
Those steps addressed the coating preparation. The separately listed wood replacement concerned a different kind of work, with estimated time and materials to be accounted for.
The Carroll approach
Discuss what the allowance covers before scheduling.
A homeowner reviewing this plan could ask which pieces were expected to be replaced, what materials would be needed and how a change in the estimated effort would be handled. Those details should be confirmed rather than inferred from the two-hour allowance.
The proposal also included a color consultation to be scheduled after booking and described cleanup, touch-ups and a final walkthrough. These were planned steps, not a record of completed work.
The useful lesson is to distinguish preparing a surface for paint from replacing the material beneath it, and to keep an optional repair allowance visible in the agreement.
